The On-line Kava Drinking Community

For over three thousands of years, south Pacific islanders have drank kava, a beverage made from the masticated roots of a pepper plant, Piper Methysicum.  In the modern age, kava has emerged from obscurity becoming a valuable cash crop and recreational beverage in south Pacific nations, such as Vanuatu, Fiji, and Hawaii.  Within the past decade, kava found its way into North American culture with the opening of America's first kava bar, Nakava, in Boca Raton, Florida.   Since the opening of Nakava, two additional kava bars have opened in the south Florida with interest in the kava bar interest spreading across the States.

Answering the Question: Where Can I Buy Kava Kava PDF Print E-mail
If you are not in Vanuatu or Fiji enjoying a tropical vacation and looking for some fresh kava kava drink, where can you buy kava?  Luckily, we have the Internet and its infinite resources.  Surprising, though, there are only a handful of places that sell kava on-line.  And as far as I can see, nearly all of them are overseas (Hawaii, Fiji, or Vanuatu).  So what are you to do if you live in the continental US? 

Of all places, it seems that Florida is a hot spot for kava connoisseurs.  Based in Boca Raton, Florida, Nakamal at Home (pronounced NAH- kah-mall) delivers high quality, fresh kava root and instant kava.  Nakamal@home sells kava from throughout the south Pacific, including Vanuatu, Tonga, Hawaii, and Papua New Guinea.  Their kava is ground in small batches and hand packed to ensure it freshness.

Chic Kava Serving Bowl PDF Print E-mail
I was checking out kava related wares through Google Shopping and I ran across a kava serving bowl.  This kava bowl isn't a traditional tanoa found in Fiji.  It is a contemporary bowl that is reminicent of a huge Japanese soup bowl sans miso.  But what struck me most, was where it is sold: Crate and Barrel.  Kava Serving Bowl available at Crate and BarrelYou know, the Crate and Barrel in the mall.  I'm going to have to go down to the mall around me (Town Center) and see if they carry this bowl.

I love how kava culture is seeping into western society.  Next thing they'll have kava drinking bowls.
